10th ALL AFRICA UNIVERSITY GAMES CHESS MAKERERE UNIVERSITY.
On 4thJune 2022, the Makerere University Chess Team made way as part of the envoy from Makerere University to Kenyatta University in Nairobi for the 10th All Africa University games. The Makerere University Chess team is so glad to be part of the many sports that the University sent to represent.
The Team was Captained by BITARINSA ARTHUR and assisted by MUKISA GLORY. This great team was made up of 5 men and 5 ladies.
The Men included

The Ladies team included

- NASSIWA MARGARET,
- NABACHWA ALLEN,
- NAMAGANDA PATIENCE
- SABANO HILLARY.
RESULT DETAILS
The chess tournament had two events, Classical Chess and Blitz Chess and we are glad that our team was the best in both events. Our very own Matovu Abel, a student of civil Engineering managed to be the overall winner of the classical tournament, he scored 9/9 points in this Prestigious event to secure an individual Gold Medal overall. In addition, our Very own Musasizi Emmanuel managed to score 8/9 Points to secure the Bronze Medal in this Category.
On the Ladies Side, Nassiwa Margaret came Second Place securing an individual bronze medal while Mukisa Glory secured the individual silver medal in the ladies Classical Category bringing victory on the ladies’ side.
Overall Performance was Considered when they combined the points of the men’s team and the ladies team. This saw the Makerere University Chess team scope Gold in the 10TH All Africa University Games Classical Chess.
In the blitz category, blitz is fast chess played under short time controls. We were privileged that our very own Opoka Joshua of ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING was the best in this category with an individual gold medal in addition Musasizi Emmanuel got the individual bronze in this category. In the ladies’ category Nabacwa Allen got the individual gold and Nassiwa Margret got the individual bronze.
Mugagga Allan and Bitarinsa Arthur also had an outstanding performance in the classical and blitz. They contributed points for the team gold medal. Both are law students.
The Makerere University Chess Club is glad to announce that the Chess Team that Makerere University Presented for the 10th All Africa University games was the Champion in bothy categories winning the prestigious African gold medal.
Great thanks to Makerere University, the games Union, the tutors and the coaches for the great work that enabled our team emerge the best in Africa.
