KIREKA CHESS CLUB WINS 2025 PREMIER BET UGANDA CHESS LEAGUE – Extends Its Legacy to 8 Consecutive League Titles
The Premier Bet Uganda Chess League, now officially recognized as the biggest and strongest chess league in Africa, concluded its 2025 season in fashion. With 57 teams, players from Uganda, Kenya, Somalia, and South Sudan, and over 500 games, the league continues to set unmatched standards on the continent.

Kireka Chess Club has once again stamped its authority in Uganda’s chess, winning the National Chess League for an unprecedented 8th consecutive time. Their consistency, teamwork, and discipline continue to set the benchmark for chess excellence across the Region.

This season, Kireka dominated every format of the league Classical, Rapid, and Blitz winning all categories.
In the Classical format, Kireka A emerged champions, followed by CNA Chess Club in second place, while Kireka Panthers Chess Club secured third position



In the Rapid category, Kireka panthers took first place, with Kireka A finishing as runners-up and CNA Chess Club claiming third place.



In the Blitz section, Kireka A completed a clean sweep by winning the category, Gambit Chess Club finished second, and CNA Chess Club took third place.



Uganda’s national coach, FM Harold Wanyama, commended the rising junior talents for the high standard they showcased throughout the league. He highlighted their resilience and fighting spirit as a sign of a bright future for the country.
One of the standout performers was Mwase Arthur, who delivered a phenomenal season nearly achieving a perfect score on Board 2. His outstanding results earned him 104 rating points, climbing from 1992 to 2096 Elo, one of the largest rating jumps in recent league history.


The best Board 1 performer was once again FM Wanyama Harold, who secured gold with a TPR of 2223.

The Best Junior Board gold medal was awarded to Ahumuza Apollo of Civil Aviation Chess Club, while Soubith Omprakash of Kireka Chess Club earned the silver medal, and his teammate Muhirwa Alvin secured the bronze.

President Uganda Chess Federation Eng: Mwaka Emmanuel reaffirmed the National League’s status, declaring it “the best and biggest chess league in Africa.” The international representation, and consistent growth have placed Uganda at the forefront of Africa.

The 2025 victory marks the 8th league title under the tenure of President Mwaka, reflecting the stability and high standards maintained in leadership and administration.

As champions, Kireka Chess Club takes home UGX 10 MILLIONS UGANDA SHILLINGS, awarded thanks to the generous sponsorship from Premier Bet, whose support has continuously strengthened the club’s competitive efforts.

Premier Bet further assured the Ugandan chess community that they will continue supporting and standing with them, reaffirming their commitment to the growth of chess in the country.

The top juniors from this league will proudly represent Uganda at the African Junior Championship next month in Zambia carrying with them the experience and confidence gained from competing in one of Africa’s toughest leagues.
