UGANDA CHESS FEDERATION LAUNCHES THE NATIONAL LEAGUE 2024 WITH PREMIER BET UGANDA INCREASING FIRST PRIZE TO 10,000,000 UGX

The Uganda Chess Federation has officially announced the launch of the highly anticipated Premier Bet National Chess League, which is set to kick off on July 14, 2024. The league promises to be a landmark event in the African chess calendar, boasting an impressive increase in prize money and featuring a diverse range of participants from Kenya, Somalia and South Sudan.

In a remarkable show of support, Premier Bet Uganda, the league’s main sponsor, has significantly increased the first prize from 3,500,000 to 10,000,000 Uganda shillings. This substantial hike is expected to attract even more competitive play and elevate the prestige of the tournament

Kireka Chess Club, the reigning champions from the 2023 season, will be returning to defend their title. They are set to face fierce competition, not only from local teams but also from an array of international squads, including those from Somalia, Sudan, and Kenya

One of the most commendable aspects of the league is its inclusivity. This year, the league will feature a team of refugees from Bweyale, highlighting the unifying power of chess. Additionally, the league includes teams comprising veterans and players with disabilities, showcasing the federation’s commitment to making chess accessible to all. Som Chess Academy has been instrumental in organizing a team of disabled players, further broadening the scope of the competition

As the countdown to the opening round begins, the excitement is exceptional among chess players across the continent. The Premier Bet National Chess League not only promises high-stakes competition but also serves as a beacon of unity and inclusivity in the sport.
