UGANDA CHESS U16 OLYMPIAD TEAMS FLAG OFF TO EINDHOVEN, NETHERLANDS
The Uganda Chess Federation (UCF) is proud to announce the flag off of three talented
teams to the prestigious U16 Olympiad in Eindhoven, Netherlands set to run from 12th
to 19th August 2023. The occasion will take place at midday on 10th August 2023 at the
esteemed National Council of Sports (NCS).
Uganda, known for its rich chess heritage, stands as the defending champion of the
U16 championship in Zone 4.4, a testament to the nation’s commitment to nurturing
young chess prodigies. With great gratitude, UCF acknowledges the unwavering
support of coaches, parents, schools, and esteemed supporters whose dedication has
paved the way for this remarkable journey.
Guided by the unswerving passion for the sport and the indomitable spirit of its players,
the head of delegation and coach for the U16 Uganda teams is the UCF players’
representative, FM Okas Walter. With his profound leadership, these young minds are
poised to make an emphatic statement on the global stage.
As the spotlight turns towards the international arena, Uganda’s inaugural participation
in the U16 Olympiad holds the promise of exceptional performance, underlining the
dedication and countless hours of training invested by these talented individuals. Their
representation resonates deeply, not only within Uganda but across the global chess
community.
In a testament to Uganda’s flourishing chess ecosystem, the nation also eagerly
anticipates the triumphant return, this afternoon, of two teams Peak Primary School and
friends International Christian Academy from the World Schools Chess Championship
in Kazakhstan, an event that ran from 03rd August 2023 and concluded on August 8,
- The team is headed by the UCF General Secretary Eng. Ojok Patrick. Kimera
Innocent also returns from his arbitration duties at the World Schools Team chess
championship in Kazakhstan. This simultaneous participation in multiple international
events underscores the vibrancy of Uganda’s chess calendar.
The UCF remains committed to fostering and nurturing an environment for chess
enthusiasts of all ages and their achievements on the global stage stand as a beacon of
inspiration for aspiring players within Uganda and beyond.
