UGANDA IS POISED TO HAVE AN EXCEPTIONAL YEAR 2024 IN CHESS!

The city of Kampala will be hosting two significant summits, the 2024 NAM Summit, and the 2024 G77 + China Summit, bringing international attention to the country. The events have prompted substantial improvements in infrastructure, including upgrades to Entebbe International Airport, luxurious hotels, and conference rooms in Kampala and Entebbe, etc. These enhancements have elevated the venues to world-class standards.

The political tensions in Europe and the Middle East have made these regions less desirable for hosting summits and events, making Africa, particularly Uganda, an attractive alternative. In June, Kampala will also be hosting the prestigious 2024 World University Mind Sports Games, with a focus on chess and bridge. This further demonstrates the government’s commitment to hosting global events and supporting national sports federations, such as the Uganda Chess Federation (UCF).

The UCF and other organizations in Uganda are grateful for the government’s continued support of the sports sub-sector. With more of this support, we now aim to finalize the necessary arrangements and secure the opportunity to host zonal, continental, and even bid for global chess competitions.
