The 2025 National Chess League entered its defining phase over the weekend, delivering intense encounters, and decisive moments that may well shape the destiny of this year’s championship. As the dust settled after Rounds 8 and 9, Kireka A Chess Club reasserted its long-standing dominance, recording crucial victories that propelled them firmly to the top of the league table.

For weeks, Gonza Simon has dominated the headlines a man under pressure, overwhelmed by media attention, and burdened by expectations he could no longer handle. But as the dust settles, one truth remains: Kireka A Chess Club is still the fortress no one has managed to breach

While Kireka A’s dominance was the main headline, other stories defined the weekend as well. Gambit Chess club, had to make adjustments in order to get some wins.The club efforts, though commendable, revealed the growing competitiveness of the league and the need for stronger coordination within teams. Additionally, several players who had been on the waiting list for opportunities made their mark, impressing spectators with great performances and tactical creativity. This signals the increasing depth and diversity of talent within Ugandan chess.
