WORLD AMATEURS CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP MUSCAT, OMAN 01 TO 11TH NOVEMBER 2023
Team Uganda is set to kick off her campaign at the World Amateur Chess Championship
on the 01 November 2023 in Muscat Oman. Team Uganda is comprised of FIDE Master
(FM) Haruna Nsubuga and Candidate Master (CM) Faruk-Fauza Karim Kizza.
The Uganda chess delegation was ceremoniously flagged off at the Nob View Hotel,
where the Uganda chess community radiated support to the two players. In a special
way, The Uganda Chess community blessed the team with a prayer as a gesture of
support.
The team is set to depart on Tuesday morning 31 November 2023 and their progress can
be followed on chessresults.com, Chess.com, and several other traditional chess
broadcasters’ platforms. The team will be resident at the Wyndham Hotel in Muscat for
the entire period of the event.
Uganda’s FM Haruna Nsubuga is the 2022 Africa Amateur Champion while CM Faruk is
a bronze medalist from the same event.
Participation in this World Championship event holds remarkable significance. It not only
showcases Uganda’s talent but also serves as a platform for growth and excellence. This
endeavor is made possible by the collaborative efforts of UCF, the National Council of
Sports, and more.
Uganda Chess Federation stands as the visionary architect behind this forward leap. As
this event progresses, it will elevate the status of chess in Uganda, continuing to inspire
and elevate the game to new heights.
