FM HARUNA NSUBUGA – OFFICIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF UGANDA AT THE FIDE CHESS WORLD CUP 2023
KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Ugandan chess federation has a new reason to be proud as FIDE Master Haruna Nsubuga is set to represent Uganda at the FIDE Chess World Cup 2023. The tournament will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan from July 29th to August 25th.
He has been steadily rising through the ranks of the Ugandan chess scene and has now been selected to represent the country on the international stage after a world cup qualifier – a double round robin contest featuring the National Coach FM Wanyama Harold, FM Kawuma Patrick, FM Okas Walter and CM Egesa Emmanuel.

The FIDE Chess World Cup is a prestigious event that brings together some of the best chess players from all around the world. Nsubuga will be competing against the likes of Magnus Carlsen, the current world champion, and many other top players.
In an interview with our reporter, Nsubuga expressed his excitement at the opportunity to compete at such a high level.
“I am really looking forward to the tournament and I am honored to be representing Uganda on the world stage. I have been working hard to prepare for this tournament and I am hoping to put up a good performance,”

Nsubuga has been working with his coach, International Master Elijah Emojong, to prepare for the tournament. Emojong is confident that Nsubuga will do well.
“Haruna is a very talented player and has been working hard to prepare for this tournament. We believe he has what it takes to compete at this level and we are looking forward to seeing him perform,” he said.

The Ugandan Chess Federation has expressed its support for Nsubuga and is encouraging chess fans across the country to rally behind him.
“We are proud of Haruna and we wish him all the best at the FIDE Chess World Cup. We hope that his performance will inspire more young people in Uganda to take up chess,”
